Getting ready for the future job scene: automation or not.

You have probably already caught onto the buzz of automation taking over jobs. While advances in the fields of data mining, artificial intelligence and other technologies have led us to believe that robots will be taking over the world, the youth of India are confident that the age of transformers is not going to descend upon us.   The automation trend is fast catching up with the world, but a survey that we at Talentedge conducted with more than a thousand young professionals shows that the millennials don't really consider the surge of automation as an imminent threat.   A full 83% of 21-to-24-year-olds we surveyed, said they were confident that automation will not render their job roles obsolete, and 43% of them believed they were already prepared with the skills that can tackle automation. However, respondents in the age group of 25 to 30-year-olds were less convinced— 44% of this group saw a future where robots could take over their jobs. They seem to have a backup plan, though. Nearly half of them are working towards building up their skill set to fight any chances of losing a job to a bot.   Respondents from organizations that had recently fired people, or those that had plans for layoffs, mostly did not believe that automation caused all the downsizing. Indian employers, however, suggest that workers ought to be prepared for the wrath of automation as a lot of them plan to cut headcounts as a result of automation.   Automation today, is taking over the mundane, repetitive tasks. All the skill-heavy jobs are still depended on humans. Only 2% of the workforce is skilled in India - that is hardly some reassurance. So even if bots were not going to consume our jobs just yet, the threat of becoming obsolete is always looming over our heads. Someone with a better skill set is always lurking around the corner, ready to take on the job you have always wanted. It is imperative for professionals to keep up with the changing needs of the industry.  “A growing trend in the last few years has been an increasing number of working professionals opting for online courses, with an aim to acquire new skills and competencies to remain relevant,” Talentedge CEO Aditya Malik says.   If you are worried about losing out on opportunities because you don’t have the right skills, don’t, because we are here for you.
