How to Recharge Your Workforce and Improve Productivity

As employees spend long working hours in the office and therefore find themselves glued to their computer screens, it becomes important to realise the relevance of recharging the workforce. Recharging the employees means invigorating them, helping them feel refreshed and energised enough to work with more enthusiasm and spiritedness. This is what leadership courses will also tell an executive – that increasing the employees’ productivity is a direct result of energising the employees.   Longer working hours means that the workload on the employees is increasing which means that there will be more stress to finish the work in time. Organizations, therefore, must strive to relieve the employees of the stress by providing them with opportunities to recharge themselves. A stressful work environment can hinder the morale of the teams, impact the physical and mental wellness of the employees and adversely affect the business operations as well. There are several ways in which companies can help employees feel recharged.   Encouraging Employees to take Scheduled Breaks Employees sometimes suffer from a permanently switched on working mode. They cannot seem to get up and take a few minutes off for a break as they feel that it will delay the complete timeline of the project they are working in. The truth is that constantly working on the same thing for long hours can wear out a person and in turn delay the project completion anyway. Sometimes, it also happens because the workload is too much, and employees feel overwhelmed by it. At other times, employees feel guilty about leaving their workspace to catch a break.   Creating an Area at Work to Relax It is the duty of the organization to encourage a healthy work culture where a ‘break’ should not make someone feel guilty. Constant breaks between work should become a norm rather than a rarity. Creating a space within the office like a room with some games and comfortable furniture can help employees find relaxation within the office.   Encouraging Employees to Disconnect Technology has allowed us to keep in touch constantly and it has improved our productivity, but it has also led to creating an imbalance in our professional and personal lives. This can adversely impact the productivity of employees. Companies should encourage employees to disconnect from technology while on holidays so that they make the best of their break and come back refreshed.   Provide a Lively and Comfortable Atmosphere at Work Employees spend a lot of time sitting on office chairs and staring into computer screens. It is important that the companies make an effort to design office furniture and lighting ergonomically. It should be comfortable to sit in the office chairs. The lighting should be provided in such a way that it does not strain the eyes. The environment should be lively so that it makes the office space welcoming for the employees.   Implement Work from Home Options for Employees Give your employees some days every month when they can work from home. Employees often need to take care of personal errands or have unplanned babysitting duties. They can be sick or have to look after someone sick at home. In such a scenario, they sometimes need to stay at home. Work from home option will allow them to keep working effectively while taking care of home-related duties sometimes. This will also take a lot of stress off the employees and they will like to continue working for a company that cares about their personal needs.   Offer Work Hour Flexibility to Employees As big cities are getting more crowded, traffic is on the rise everywhere. Driving through peak hour traffic can be a nightmarish experience for any person. Some people have to leave home really early just so that they can reach office on time. By implementing facilities like flexible work hours, it will become possible for employees to plan their office hours in such a way that they save on their traffic time. This will mean that they will have more time for work and will not be stressed either.   Create Corners with Natural Lighting Physical environment affects the productivity of an employee greatly. A study by Leesman concluded that 75.8% of employees believed that natural light was an important element at work for them. It also has a positive effect on the health of the employee as people who are exposed to sunlight can have better health than those who are not. Creating a workspace where natural light is not obstructed by cabins and walls will lead to a bright atmosphere and improve employee mood patterns.   Recharging workforce prevents employee burn out, reduces attrition rate and improves productivity. While the workload may continue to increase, it is in the favour of organizations to make employees’ lives a little less stressful and livelier. It will reap richer rewards for both of them in the long term.
